Privacy
Your family’s cards stay yours.
Last updated October 11, 2026. Plain English first; the details follow.
Private
Your photos are stored in private storage, reachable only through your own order link. They are never posted, shared or put on a public web address.
Never used for training
We don’t use your photos or recipes to train AI, and our AI provider’s terms don’t allow them to either.
Deleted after 90 days
Card photos and book files are deleted automatically 90 days after your book is delivered. Download your PDF to keep it.
What we collect
- Order details: your name, email address and, for printed books, shipping addresses and a phone number (the carrier requires one).
- Payment: handled entirely by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and the amount, never your full card number.
- Your cards: the photos you upload, the transcribed recipes, and the book details you enter (title, family name, dedication, chapters).
- Messages: anything you send through the contact form or by email.
- Free decoder: the photo you submit is processed in memory to produce the transcription and is not stored. To limit abuse we count uses per day against a scrambled, one-way code derived from your IP address, which we delete after a week. If you opt in, we keep your email address to send occasional Card & Crumb news; you can unsubscribe any time.
How we use it
Only to make and deliver your book, help you with your order, and keep the service secure. We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Your card photos
- Stored privately with Cloudflare. Staff look at them only when we need to help with your order.
- Sent to our AI provider only to transcribe your cards. The provider processes them under API terms that exclude using customer data to train models.
- Built into your book files, which go to our print partner Lulu only if you order a hardcover.
- Deleted automatically 90 days after delivery (for hardcovers, counted from when the last copy ships). Orders that are never completed are deleted after 180 days without activity, and refunded orders after 30 days. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
Before you upload, please make sure you’re happy for the cards to be photographed and turned into a book. If cards include other people’s names or notes, they’re treated with the same care.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers, each only for the job listed:
- Stripe: payment processing (we never see your full card number).
- Cloudflare: website hosting, the database for orders, and private storage of your photos and book files.
- OpenAI: AI transcription of your card photos, under API terms that exclude training on your data.
- Lulu: printing and shipping hardcover books (receives the book files and shipping addresses).
- Cloudflare Email Service: sending order emails (receives your email address and the message).
Cookies
We set one cookie, and only if you sign in to your order portal: it keeps you signed in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing hello@recipecardbook.com. We keep basic order and payment records for as long as tax and accounting rules require, but we will delete your photos and book files on request.
Children
Card & Crumb is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll update the date above and, for open orders, tell you by email.
